General Information

Cemeteries

Morgan Cemetery
Morgan Cemetery Image History Morgan Cemetery is located on Capital Ave. S.W., south of Battle Creek in Section 2 of Leroy Township. It was laid out in 1839-40 on land donated by Joshua Robinson, and was known as Robinson Cemetery for a number of years. In 1867, William Morgan purchased land from Walter J. Swart, and on a knoll surrounded by this land was the little Robinson Cemetery.  It was old then and covered with weeds and briers, and not liking it’s unsightly appearance, Mr. Morgan proceeded to clean it up.  As the cemetery needed more room, he sold small parcels of land on three different occasions until it became a three acre tract. It may be that because of his interest in the cemetery, and the additions from his own land, the name of Robinson was slowly dropped and it became known as Morgan Cemetery. Among the first two burials at Morgan Cemetery are that of Rebeca Moon, 71 years old, who died April 7, 1839, and that of Betsy Robinson, daughter of Joshua and Harriet Robinson, who died August 18, 1839, at the age of 12 years.
Mather-Voyce Cemetery
Mather-Voyce Cemetery Image History Mather-Voyce Cemetery is located on 5 Mile Road between H Drive So. and K Drive So.  The cemetery had its beginning on the pioneer farm of George Johnston.  The first burial, according to the headstones, is that of Mary Watkins, wife of A.B. Watkins, who died in 1838 at the age of 37 years.
Leroy Congregational Cemetery
Leroy Congregational Cemetery Image History Leroy Congregational Cemetery is located on H Drive So. across from the Congregational Church in Sections 28 and 29 of Leroy Township. The earliest burial according to headstones was that of Martha Bushnell, daughter of John and Mary Bushnell.  Martha died April 12, 1832, and was undoubtedly buried on land given by her Grandfather, Asa Bushnell, who died in 1844.
